How Do I Attach Blanket Binding to a Hand-Knit Blanket?
Hand-knit blankets are especially warm and cozy and wonderful to give as gifts. They can be given to babies, children or adults as gifts for birthdays, showers or Christmas. Binding a hand-knit blanket is a good way to help the blanket keep its shape. Without the binding, the wool or yarn can get stretched out during use or from washing; but the blanket binding can stop that from happening.
Instructions
-
-
1
Lay the hand-knit blanket on a table.
-
2
Fold the blanket binding around the edge of the blanket with the shorter side on the top of the blanket. Make sure the longer side of the binding is on the back of the blanket. The natural fold should be on the exact edge of the blanket. Pin the binding.
-
-
3
Sew the binding down with a matching colored thread. The front of the blanket should be facing up when you sew. You should sew it as close to the edge of the binding as possible.
-
4
Sew to the corner of the blanket and cut the thread, leaving the binding in place.
-
5
Wrap the binding around the corner. You will have a large piece sticking up in the corner. Fold down the corner in one direction and sew it down. Continue sewing down the side of the blanket, repeating these steps when you get to the corners.
-
6
Fold under the end when you get to the place where you began the binding and sew it over the starting edge.
