How to See CPU Temperature

How to See CPU Temperature thumbnail
Monitor the temperature of a CPU using BIOS.

The central processing unit (CPU) is the main component of a computer. It controls everything a computer does in the same way the brain controls a human. When a computer is running multiple programs, it isn't unusual for the CPU's temperature to rise. Monitoring the temperature is a good idea because if it rises too high, the other components inside your computer can sustain heat damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Switch on your computer and press the "Pause Break" button on your keyboard.

    • 2

Look at the key at the bottom of the screen and locate which key will prompt your computer to enter BIOS. BIOS is sometimes referred to as System Setup. The button for this operation is usually F2 or Delete.

    • 3

Scroll down to the "PC Health Status" option and press the enter key on your keyboard.

    • 4

Locate the "CPU Temperature" heading; next to this will be the temperature of your CPU in degrees Celsius. See Resources for a guide to dangerous operating temperatures.
