How to Slow Down QuickTime Software

The QuickTime video player is a free program that both Mac and PC users find appealing, thanks to a straightforward interface that doesn’t require any learning curve to use effectively. You can slow down the QuickTime video player’s software so that videos run at slower speeds than normal. The control is built into both the Mac and PC versions of the QuickTime video player program. Neither the computer’s operating system nor the video file being slowed down will be permanently affected by slowing down the video’s playback.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the QuickTime video player by double-clicking its icon inside of the “Applications” folder inside of the computer’s main hard drive (Mac) or by selecting it from the “Start > All Programs” pop-up menu (PC).

    • 2

Drag a video file onto the icon of the QuickTime video player--the icon is on the Toolbar at the bottom right of the screen (PC) or in the Dock to the left or at the bottom of the screen (Mac). Wait for a QuickTime window of the video file to appear on the desktop (a matter of a few seconds).

    • 3

Go to “Window > Show A/V Controls.” Locate the “Playback speed” slider at the lower right bottom of the A/V Controls window that appears. Click on the tab in the slider. Move the tab to the right to change the speed of the video playback from “1X” (normal) to “”3/4X” or “1/2X” (three-quarters normal or half speed). Click the “X” in the upper left corner of the A/V Controls window to close it.

    • 4

Press the “Play” button on the control panel at the bottom of the QuickTime window. Watch the video play at three-quarters or half normal speed. Quit the Quicktime video player when you are through watching.
