How to Fix My American Standard Faucet
If you are trying to fix an American Standard faucet for the kitchen or bath, it helps to have your instruction manual handy. Fixing the American Standard faucet requires some plumbing skill and knowledge of basic tools. It is something the average homeowner can accomplish with patience and some trial and error, however. Things You'll Need
- Allen wrench
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
- New American Standard faucet replacement cartridge

Turn off the water supply before you attempt to fix the faucet.

Remove the screw in the bottom of the American Standard faucet handle with an Allen wrench. Turn the screw head to the left and remove the screw. Slide the handle off of the stem by hand.

Twist off the dome cap (also called the bonnet cap) and remove this from the fixture. Use a pair of pliers wrapped with tape to prevent scratches and damage to the surface of the cap if this part will not budge.

Loosen the three cartridge screws in the American Standard faucet and remove each one. Then pull the cartridge out of the faucet head. Remove the O ring and then the seat gaskets inside the faucet head with the top of the Allen wrench. Replace the seat gaskets with new ones and replace the O ring. Then replace the cartridge with a brand new American Standard faucet cartridge that matches your make and model specifically. Replace the screws to the cartridge and tighten them.

Replace the dome and the handle. Then tighten the screw on the handle to complete the repair.
