How to Improve Employee Morale After an Employee Got Fired for Theft
Firing an employee for theft from your company is something no business owner wishes to do during their time in management. Sometimes it does occur, and that owner may find themselves with lackluster employees who are affected by the dismissal of their old colleague. Improving morale is essential to keeping employees happy at work, focused on the job and doing excellent work. Doing so successfully, however, requires planning and effort.

1
Meet with all of your employees as a group, and explain in detail their job responsibilities. Do not be condescending, but treat them with respect. Tell them that you expect a level of professionalism that you know can be given because you have hired the best candidates for the job. Do not focus on what they might not do well, but empower them to do their best.
-
2
Reward behavior that is in line with what you expect from your employees. For a short while after the firing, employees may not perform up to their usual standards. Raise performance by offering perks and incentives.
-
-
3
Hand out compliments to your employees frequently. If you see that they are trying hard and giving you their best work, support them verbally with compliments and encouragement.
-
4
Host a company picnic or dinner at no cost to your employees. This will break the ice between management and subordinate. This will help ease the scared or tense feeling others may have about impending terminations, opening up communication and dialogue between employees.
-
5
Choose an employee of the month or week to show that you want to recognize those who are excelling at their work. Give your employees a personal satisfaction goal to which they should strive.
-
6
Conduct surveys or interviews where employees will have an opportunity to voice their honest opinions about how the business is being run. Listen carefully to all comments, even if you disagree with some. Keep an open mind, and implement one or two ideas if feasible to show that you are serious about taking feedback and turning it into positive change.
