How do I Turn Photos into Posters? thumbnail
Posters can be created using a desktop printer.

Photographs are a common way of helping us hold onto our memories, so we like to display them in our homes. Printing photos in smaller sizes that will fit into frames is easily done with a home desktop printer. Posters can also be created this way. A series of photos can be printed and assembled after printing to create a larger than life-size display.

Scan your photo print using a scanner to create a digital file. Save the digital photo file to your computer's hard drive. Skip this step if you already have a digital file of the photo.

    • 2

Right click the digital photo file and select "Properties." Verify that your photograph has enough pixels to print to your desired size. According to Hewlett-Packard, posters of 16 inches by 20 inches should be made from photos with 1800 x 1440 pixels. Posters of 20 inches by 30 inches should be made from photos with 2700 x 1800 pixels.

Open the photo file in your photo-editing program of choice. This may be a program such as Google Picasa or Adobe Photoshop. Select "File" then "Print." A "Print" window will appear.

    • 4

Click "Properties" or "Options" next to your chosen printer. Select the "Advanced" tab or button in the Properties window.

Select the size of your poster using the drop-down menu under "Poster Printing." The sizes are provided by the number of 8.5 inch by 11 inch sheets of paper that will be used in printing. For example, a 2x2 printing option means that the poster will be 2 pages in width and 2 pages in length, using a total of 4 pages.

Cut the white borders off the printed photos. Glue or tape the printed pages in order on a piece of posterboard or foamboard.
