Portability and productivity take a nosedive when your laptop battery stops holding a charge or the charge only lasts a short while, leaving you restricted to working where you can find an open electrical outlet. Fortunately, changing the battery in your Dell Inspiron 6000 takes a matter of minutes and requires no specialized tools.

      Turn off the Dell Inspiron 6000 and unplug the power cord.

      Close the LCD screen and set the computer upside down on a towel or other soft material placed across a flat surface. The towel will protect the laptop's cover from getting scratched.

      Turn the laptop so that the hinged edge is furthest away from you. In this position, the battery is near the front left corner of the case.

      Slide the battery bay release latch release toward the middle of the computer, then lift up the edge of the battery at a 45-degree angle and remove it.

      Insert the new battery into the battery bay at a 45-degree angle. Seat the long straight edge of the battery located furthest from the latch release mechanism first, then press down on the opposite edge until you hear the battery click fully into place.
