How to Charge an iPhone That Is Competely Dead?

Connecting your iPhone to a power source is usually enough to revive it.

After giving a series of low-power status alerts, your iPhone will shut down completely when it runs out of power. Thankfully, simply connecting your device to a power outlet will usually revive it -- slowly but surely. But if other factors are at play – such as a faulty battery, liquid damage or a system blip – recharging your iPhone will hang in limbo. Fortunately, you can resolve troublesome iPhone recharging before having to trek over to an Apple-authorized service center for help.

Step 1

Connect your iPhone to a working power outlet using the USB cable and power adapter that came with it. Within a few minutes, your screen should show a large battery icon displaying a red sliver of power within it. Do not use your iPhone for at least 10 minutes while it is recharging. If possible, avoid using your device at all until the battery icon turns green or shows a full charge. You'll know that your iPhone is fully charged when the symbol within the tiny battery icon on the right side of your status bar changes from a lightning rod to an electrical plug.

Step 2

Reset your iPhone if it does not turn on after 10 minutes of charging. Simultaneously press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button on the upper-right edge of your device and the "Home" button beneath your display. Hold these buttons for at least 10 seconds until either the Apple logo or the battery icon appears. Then continue to charge your device until it is fully charged.

Step 3

Restore your iPhone if a reset does not jump-start and recharge your iPhone. Restoring your device will wipe your device clean, reinstall system software and reload your data and media from a backup. Launch iTunes on your computer and then connect your iPhone to it. Select your iPhone from the iTunes "Devices" listing in the left pane and then select the "Summary" tab above the main pane on the right. Click "Check for Update" to download the latest iTunes software, if needed. Then click "Restore" and follow the prompts.

Step 4

Contact Apple Support or consult an authorized iPhone service provider for assistance if restoring your iPhone does not revive your iPhone. Your device may have been damaged by liquids or your battery may have reached the end of its life. On the other hand, it could also just be a faulty USB cable and power adapter; bring these items along with your device to your service provider.
