The 2200 and 3300 series of Netopia modems have wireless functionality.

For most users, the default settings of the Netopia DSL modem are enough, but you need to log in to the modem if you want to access its network or Internet settings. This is especially important if you are using a DSL modem with wireless functionality, as unsecured wireless networks can give others access to your network and the computers on it.

Instructions

      An Ethernet cable.

      Make sure your computer is connected to the Netopia modem, either directly, by connecting an Ethernet cable from the modem to your computer, or through a wired or wireless network router connected to the modem. If your computer has an Internet connection, you are connected to your Netopia modem.

      Open a web browser window and enter "http://192.168.1.254" in the web address box. This accesses the "basic mode" home page of the Netopia modem.

      Enter the user name and password if you are using a wireless connection and your Netopia modem was previously configured beyond the basic quick start configuration.

      Make the desired changes to the modem's settings.

      Save any changes you made to the Netopia DSL modem's settings and close the web browser to log out.

Tips & Warnings

  • While logged in to the modem, you can change the network name, password and manage how computers on your network connect to the Internet, as well as a number of advanced features like port forwarding and setting static IP addresses. The owner's manual contains more detailed information on these settings.
