The HP Recovery Manager application comes pre-installed on Pavilion computers and helps restore the hard drive in the event that it gets damaged or corrupted during normal operation. Click "Start" and choose "All Programs." Click on the "Recovery Manager" folder and select the "Recovery Manager" option.

Click the "Advanced Options" button and choose "System Recovery." Click on the next button to restart the computer into the recovery mode.

Select the "System Recovery" option in the HP Recovery Manager window that opens once the computer restarts. Click "Next" and close the "Microsoft System Restore" window if it opens. Click "Next." If you wish to backup any data saved to the hard drive, click the "Backup Your Files First" option and follow the on-screen prompts before clicking "Next."

Click "Next" to begin the restore process. Erasing the data and restoring the hard drive can take up to several hours. Keep the computer connected to the power supply while the restore is in progress. The computer will restart when the restore is complete.
