With Windows XP you can receive and send faxes without an external fax machine using the Microsoft Fax application. The fax application is a component of the Windows XP operating system, but it is not automatically installed when you set up Windows XP. If your computer is set up with a fax modem connected to a telephone line then you can install the Microsoft Fax application at any time using your Windows XP installation CD.
