How to Tow a Rear Wheel Drive Truck

There was a time when it wasn't uncommon to see a Good Samaritan towing another persons' car using just his own car and a chain. However, due to a heightened awareness about vehicle safety, you don't see that much anymore. For instance, if you tow a rear-wheel drive vehicle with its rear wheels on the ground, you could ruin the transmission. Because the truck's rear wheels can't be on the ground, using a flatbed tow truck is an effective way to tow the truck. It keeps all wheels off the ground and prevents wear and tear on the truck's tires.

Instructions

1. Make sure the flatbed truck can hold the weight of the vehicle. It is possible for the vehicle to be too heavy for the tow truck. Compare the weight of the truck with the tow truck to make sure the flatbed truck is strong enough.

2. Lower the flatbed down to form a ramp.

3. Drive the vehicle up the ramp or pull it up with a winch.

4. Put the flatbed back in place and make sure the truck is secured on the bed before driving off.
