How to Test Web Page Speed
Test Web page speed to make sure your pages are not loading too slowly. Visitors to your Web page, many of whom may have slow connections, may abandon your site if load time is too slow. Additionally, search engines may rank your site poorly if your Web page does not load fast enough. Performing a Web page speed test can help you identify poor speed performance and suggestions for improvement.

Select several sites to test your Web page speed. Popular Web page speed tools can be found at Web Site Optimization, Pingdom and iWebTool (see Resources). Using more than one tool to test Web page speed will allow you to compare results for accuracy and some sites may offer different suggestions for improvements.

Review the test results. After the test is completed, the site will return results that will give a calculation of the time it takes to load your Web page. Some speed test tools give a breakdown of the load time for multiple pages on your site, as well as page elements such as scripts and pictures. Review and compare the results from different sites to determine the speed of your Web page and whether specific improvements can have a positive impact.
