How to Increase RAM on the VGN A297XP
The Sony VGN A297XP is a laptop that came standard with Windows XP Professional operating system. The system also came standard with 512 MB of random access memory. If you find your laptop not working as it should, you can upgrade the RAM. This is a process that takes about 10 minutes to complete. The Sony VGN A297XP can handle up to 2 GB of RAM.

Close all of the applications on your computer and turn off the machine.

Disconnect all of the cables and cords, including the power source, from the laptop.

Turn the laptop over and place it on a flat surface like a kitchen table. Remove the battery pack and wait for about 10 minutes for the laptop to cool.

Remove the single screw on the top of the memory compartment door. Take the compartment door off of the machine.

Separate the clips on either side of the module and slide it out of the slot.

Match the notch on the new memory module with the small knob in the slot. Slide the new module in the slot and press down on it so it lies flat in the laptop. Put the compartment door back on the machine and fasten the screw.

Remove the two screws below the memory compartment door.

Turn the laptop back over. Insert the end of a small screwdriver in the three slots at the top of the laptop. There is one in the middle and one in both upper corners.

Flip the keyboard toward to the monitor.

Touch a piece of unpainted metal to remove the static electricity from your body and clothes.

Match the notch on the new memory module with the small knob in the slot. Slide the new module in the slot and press down on it so it lies flat in the laptop. Put the compartment door back on the machine and fasten the screw.

Flip the keyboard back down a press on it so it clicks into place. Flip the laptop back over and tighten the two screws. Put the battery back in the laptop. Reconnect all of the cables and cords and turn on the laptop.
