How to Show the Sidebar in Vista
The Windows sidebar was introduced in Microsoft Windows Vista and provides a way for you to rapidly view important information and to access useful tools. The sidebar is a long, vertical strip located on the side of the screen and can contain mini-programs, called "gadgets." Common programs for the sidebar include the current weather display, clock, a virtual sticky notepad application, news feeds and a picture slideshow. You can show and hide the Windows Vista sidebar when necessary to give you more screen space to work with.
