How to Get Past the HP Invent Screen to Use a Boot-Up Disk

The boot disk that comes with HP computers will restore the system to the original factory settings. When a computer is being restored, it will remove all additional files and programs from the hard drive and reinstall the original configurations and programs, which may include trial software, onto the system. The boot disk doesn't operate like other disks; once inserted, the computer must then be told how to read the disk with a command. This command will get you past the HP Invent screen.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the boot disk into the CD or DVD-ROM drive as usual.

    • 2

Power off the HP computer. Don't remove the disk from the drive.

    • 3

Power on the computer and simultaneously press the "F11" key. This command will prompt the computer to restore the system using the boot disk. After performing some tests on the hard drive, the recovery screen will open.

    • 4

Select a recovery option. You can select a standard recovery or to restore original factory settings and delete all current data from the hard drive. Standard recovery will backup the current files.
