Convert your Lightwave models to Poser Pro.

Lightwave is a 3-D modeling and animation package used for many purposes, including creating commercials, movies and video game content. It can also be used to create 3-D models for use in other programs. Poser Pro is a widely used consumer level 3-D animation and image rendering application. Many who work in Lightwave like to produce models for use in Poser Pro (or other versions of Poser), either for their own use or to sell or give away to others. However, it is best to export models out of Lightwave in a format that Poser users are accustomed to using, such as WaveFront OBJ. The process for doing this in Lightwave is quite straightforward.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Lightwave. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open" in the dialog that appears. Locate a file that you have been working on that you would like to use in Poser Pro and open it.

    • 2

Select "Tools" from the menu and choose "Custom." From the options, choose "Translator 3D" and select "Wavefront." This file will not have an object extension, so right-click on the file and change the file extension to ".obj" so Poser can open it. Close Lightwave.

    • 3

Open Poser Pro. Select and delete the default figure standing in the scene. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Import." From the file option types, choose "Wavefront OBJ."

    • 4

Browse to the file you exported from Lightwave and open it. In the import dialog, choose the settings you want, such as whether it will be placed on the floor and the scale it will initially come in at. Click "OK." The model will appear in the scene.

    • 5

Open the "Library" palette on the right. Choose the "Props" library. Then select a folder you would like to save the model to for later use. Click on the "+" sign at the bottom of the library palette. Name the model and click "OK."
