Speed up your hard disk with Diskeeper.

Defragmenting is a process of aligning all of the pieces of various files on a hard disk. This can drastically reduce seek times as well as increase the life of the hard disk. While with today's hardware, defragmenting is usually not necessary, some situations definitely warrant the use of defragmentation. If you're running any kind of database such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, you'll see a drastic improvement after a comprehensive disk defragmentation.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Diskeeper. This is done by double-clicking the icon.

    • 2

Select the drive you would like to defragment in the window pane on top.

    • 3

Click "Analyze." Click "Defragment." Diskeeper will automatically determine the partitioning scheme of the drive and act accordingly. You do not need to specify NTFS or FAT.
