Instructions

1. Request that the Texas organization show you the letter issued by the IRS recognizing the organization as tax exempt.

2. Visit the IRS website and conduct a search for charities if the Texas company does not have the letter verifying it is a tax exempt organization. Click on the "Search Now" link which will open the search criteria for the Texas company you are interested in.

3. Type in the name of the organization, city and state of the business. If you are unsure of the full name of the company you can use filters that either allow you to "start with" or "include" certain parts of the business name.

4. Click "Search." Scan the available companies for the non-profit Texas organization you are looking for. If the company is currently registered it will be listed.
