How to Share Files & Printers in XP & Vista
Sharing files and printers allows users the opportunity to view and print files between computers on the same network. For example, if you have two computers installed in your home, if you enable file sharing, you can access files from one computer on another computer linked on the same network. Additionally, you can share a printer between two or more computers if they are linked on the same network.

Click the "Start" button followed by "Control Panel."

Locate and click "Network Connections." Click "Local connections" followed by "Properties."

Select the "General" tab and check the box net to "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks." If you do not have that option, select "Install" followed by "Service" then click "Add." Click "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" followed by "OK." Select "Close" and "Yes" if prompted to restart your computer.
Windows Vista

Click the "Start" button followed by "Control Panel" then "Network and Internet" and "Network and Sharing Center."

Select the "ON" option by clicking the downward arrow for "Network Discovery, File Sharing and Printer Sharing" from within the Network and Sharing menu.

Select "Apply" to confirm your changes. If prompted, enter the administrator password for the changes to take effect.

Tips & Warnings
If connected to a public network, it is best to disable file and printer sharing, as anyone else connected to this network may be able to retrieve your files.
