How to Troubleshoot a Groen Steamer SSB3G

Meg Butler

Your Groen Steamer SSB3G is a complicated piece of machinery. When installed by a professional and used according to the manufacturer's guidelines, the Groen is designed to operate without incident. However, every piece of machinery is bound to malfunction at some point, even with proper use. Many minor malfunctions can be fixed with a little home troubleshooting. If the problem persists after you troubleshoot, contact a service company approved by Groen for advice or to schedule a repair.

  1. Open the steamer cavity if the Groen Steamer's Fault Display shows the number 1 or 2. Clean the floats in the steamer cavity if they have accumulated debris. Check the floats. The high water float must swing down. The low water float must swing up. Finally, check the water level to make sure that there is enough water present to run the steamer. Then close the steamer cavity and power the steamer.

  2. Open the steamer cavity if it overfills with water when you start the steamer. Clean the floats and the drain strainer if they have accumulated debris. Make sure that the high water float swings down and the low water float swings up. Close the cavity and attempt to run the steamer again. If it continues to overflow, contact a professional service company.

  3. Check the power supply to a Groen Steamer that will not power on. Check the wall circuit breaker and fuse that supplies power to the steamer. If there is no problem there, the next step is to check the fuses inside of the steamer. This must be done by a qualified service person.

  4. Flip the "On" switch if the steamer does not fill with water once power is supplied to it. If the "On" switch is depressed, check to make sure that the water supply is connected, the water is turned on and the water supply hose is free of kinks and obstructions. Then check that the screen at the water connection is free of clogs. Finally, check to make sure that the water pressure is higher than 30 pounds per square inch and that the water flow is higher than 1.5 grams per minute.

  5. Test the door to make sure that the steamer door is securely closed if "door" appears in the time display window.

  6. Check to make sure that the "On" switch is depressed if the Groen produces no steam. Then check to make sure that steamer door is firmly closed. Finally, check to make sure that the water supply hose is connected and the water is turned on.

  7. Call a service company approved by Groen if the Fault Display displays the number 7 for more than 30 minutes while the steamer is in normal operation. There may be a problem with the cooling fan. You can, however, continue operate the steamer while you await the repairs.

  8. Turn the circuit breaker that supplies power to the Groen steamer off and then back on. Many minor operational problems can be fixed by restarting the steamer in this fashion.

  9. Clear any blockages in the Groen's drain and vent. These blockages may cause the Groen's door to pop open. If the drain and vent are clear, check the door pins to make sure that they are properly aligned.

  10. Shut off the steamer and call an approved servicer if the Fault Display displays the number six. Do not operate the steamer until it is serviced.
