How to Edit Registry Settings With a Reg File thumbnail
Import a reg file to edit registry values.

A "reg" file is one with key values you import into your registry. Reg files are included with application install procedures and device drivers. If the installation of the device driver or application fails, you use the reg file to import the registry settings. This can be manually executed using the Windows registry editor. The process only takes a few seconds, and the import process is automated from the Windows registry import dialog box.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and enter "regedit" in the text box. Press "Enter" to open the Windows registry editor.

    • 2

Click the "File" menu item at the top of the registry editor. Select "Import" from the menu items. A new dialog window opens.

    • 3

Select the .reg file and click the "Import" button. The registry entries in the reg file are imported and set in the Windows registry.
