Instructions

    • 1

Call a professional to inspect your hot water boiler every three years.

    • 2

Check the water level of your boiler every few months to ensure that you are not boiling it dry. There is a fill line located on your hot water boiler. The water should be at that level each time. If it is not, there is probably a leak. You can also detect a leak if there is water around the hot water boiler. Make sure that the pilot light is on and that there are no leaks.

    • 3

Drain the water from the boiler once a year. Make sure that the main water supply to your home has been turned off. Open the boiler according to manufacturer directions; most boilers have a latch on the side that will allow you access to the inside. Once you drain it, scrub any buildup off. Refill.

Clean the area around the hot water boiler at least once a year. This includes cleaning dust from the outside of the boiler. Dust can clog your boiler causing it to overheat. Also make sure that nothing is around your boiler that will obstruct your access to it in case of an emergency.
