Guild Wars Surround Sound Won't Work
"Guild Wars" is a multi-player online role-playing game set in a fantasy world. This game uses environmental audio effects (EAX) as its form of surround sound, enabling a dynamic environmental sound system, especially in enclosed areas. If the EAX toggle on the in-game sound controls is grayed out, you will need to change settings on your computer to enable the surround sound. The Windows XP operating system supports DirectSound hardware acceleration and only requires a tweak in the sound settings; however, Windows Vista and Windows 7 do not support DirectSound hardware acceleration and require a program that enables the sound card to support DirectSound.

Click on the "Start" button and choose "Control Panel" from the start menu.

Double-click "Sounds and Audio Devices" to launch your computer's sound controls.

Navigate to the "Audio" tab and click the "Advanced" button.

Navigate to the "Performance" tab and locate the "Hardware Acceleration" controls.

Set the "Hardware Acceleration" slider to "Full," and click "OK" to allow the changes to take place. You should now be able to log into "Guild Wars" and toggle on the EAX on the in-game sound controls.

Download and install the Creative ALchemy program from the Softonic webpage. You will be required to reboot your computer during installation.

Click on the "Start" button and choose "All Programs" from the start menu.

Click the "Creative" folder, then open the "ALchemy" folder.

Click the "Creative ALchemy" icon to launch the program. You will see a list of games on the left side of the window that support DirectSound, including "Guild Wars."

Click on "Guild Wars" in the list once to highlight it.

Click the ">>" button in the center of the window to move "Guild Wars" from the left window to the right window.

Close the "Creative ALchemy" window. You should now be able to log into "Guild Wars" and toggle on the EAX on the in-game sound controls.
