How to Fix a Turn Signal in Vehicles

Repairing a turn signal circuit on a Vehicles is not a difficult task. The simplest possible problem is a blown fuse. The next part of the system to explore is the flasher. When it goes bad, the turn signals will either not blink or they will blink faster than normal. This symptom should cause you to suspect the flasher is going bad.

Locate the fuse panel inside the Escalade. The fuse panel for the instrument panel in the Escalade is on the driver's side. The fuse block is at the edge of the instrument panel.

Look for fuse 16. This fuse controls the front and rear turn signals. If the small piece of metal connecting the two blades of the fuse is broken or melted, the fuse is bad and you must replaced it. The state of the fuse is evident by the strip of metal along the back of the fuse, even when installed.

Examine the diagram of the fuse panel to make sure there is not another fuse that is associated with the turn signals or the flashers.

Replace any blown fuses. Ensure that the replacement fuse has the same current rating.

Check each of the bulbs to make sure they all work. If even one of the bulbs goes bad, it can cause all the lights to fail.

Make sure that the relay is the problem. Check each of the turn signals to make sure that all the lights are working. If one bulb goes out in the system, symptoms will appear as if the flasher is going bad. Replacing the bad bulb will solve the problems if this is the only problem you are having.

Locate the fuses for the turn signals on the Pathfinder. Find the filament and make sure that the fuses haven't burned out. Replace any fuses that appear to be bad.

Remove and check the turn signal switch mounted to the steering column. Remove the steering wheel center cap by backing off the screws on the underneath side of the steering wheel. Then using a steering wheel puller, remove the steering wheel and the plastic cowling around the steering column.

Take off the switch from the steering column and carefully label each wire bundle so that you can replace them on the new switch. Install the new switch and replace the wire bundles. Reassemble the cowling and remount the steering wheel. Adjust the steering wheel cover and tighten it so that the horn will sound when pressed.

Check out the turn signal bulbs. Turn them on, go around the car and see which ones light up. If this doesn't work, turn on the hazard lights and look at each of the lights, noting any that don't light up. Replace any bulbs you found not lighting. A burned out bulb is often enough to make the whole system mimic a flasher problem.

Lie down in the floorboard of the driver's side of the car and look up under the dash with a flashlight. You are looking for a small silver plug. This is the flasher. To make sure you have the right flasher, turn on the turn signal and feel the casing of the flasher. You should be able to feel it clicking.

Remove the silver plug and replace it with the new flasher. Slide out from the floorboard and start the Galant. Recheck the turn signals and make sure that they flash, as they should.
