How to Hit a Punch Draw Shot in Golf
A punch draw shot is a golf shot that combines the aspects of a punch shot and a draw. It is generally used as a recovery shot following a tee shot the ends up wide of the fairway. The result is a low trajectory shot that draws from right to left for a right-handed player. It is utilized when an object is in the way of the golfer's target, such as a tree trunk, and objects are preventing a higher trajectory shot, such as tree branches. The following instructions are for right-handed players only. A left-handed player would need to reverse the instructions.

1
Pull a low lofted club out of your golf bag. The most commonly used clubs for a punch draw shot are a 3, 4 or 5 iron.
-
2
Grip and align the club behind the ball as you would a normal shot. In the case of an extreme draw being necessary, close the club face as much as necessary.
-
-
3
Line your feet up with the golf ball back in your stance closer to your right foot than your left. Setting the ball up in this manner will naturally create the sidespin that will draw the golf ball.
-
4
Aim your shot to the right of your target. The draw action created on the ball during the shot will bring the ball left and back toward your intended target.
-
5
Take your backswing about 3/4 of the way back and on a lower plane than a normal shot.
-
6
Swing normally through impact of the ball on the same lower plane as your backswing. Using a lower plane will reduce the angle the club is coming down toward the ball and keep the trajectory of the ball lower.
-
7
Complete the punch draw shot with a 3/4 follow through.
