How Do I Use Kotex Sanitary Pads?

Kotex sanitary pads are made by the Kimberly-Clark company, who introduced the first sanitary pad to consumers in 1920. Since then, sanitary pads have evolved quite a bit, and are tailored to meet the menstruation needs of different women. Sanitary pads collect the menstrual blood, while protecting clothing. When choosing a sanitary pad, choices include: pads with or without "wings" to protect leakage onto the sides of your underwear and pants; regular protection; maximum flow protection; regular size; and super-long. Dependent upon what phase of your period it is, you may use a Kotex sanitary pad for a light, medium or heavy flow. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Open the individual pouch in which the Kotex sanitary pad is encased.

    • 2

Sit or crouch over the toilet so the inside of your underwear is easily accessible. Placing yourself over the toilet helps cut down on mess if your menstrual flow is very heavy.

    • 3

Remove the peel from the backside of the Kotex sanitary pad that protects the adhesive strip. Place the sanitary pad against the inside of your underwear, with the middle area of the pad meeting up with the area of your underwear that will sit against your crotch.

    • 4

If the Kotex sanitary pad has wings, peel the protective strips off them, then fold the wings down and underneath your underwear to protect your clothing from blood stains.

    • 5

Change your Kotex sanitary pad every two to six hours, depending upon the heaviness of your flow. Most sanitary pads wick the moisture away from your skin so you don't feel the blood flow. When you start to feel the moisture or the pad is more than two-thirds full of menstrual blood, it's time to change the pad.

    • 6

Peel the used Kotex sanitary pad off your underwear, and roll it up with the blood-stained portion on the inside of the roll. Wrap toilet paper or facial tissue around the sanitary pad, and dispose of it in the garbage can.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep sanitary pads in your purse in case you get your period while away from home.

  • Kotex offers limited free samples, which is a good way to try a new or different style of Kotex sanitary pad to see if it will meet your needs.
