      Measure the fireplace that will be included in the living room. You will need to know the height, width and depth of the unit.

      Draft the living room to scale on the draft paper, using the ruler to keep your lines straight. A good scale to use is 2 squares of graph paper for every 1 foot of actual size.

      Chose a suitable place to locate the fireplace in the living room. This area must allow for a chimney to extend through the celing to vent smoke.

      Sketch in the measurements of the fireplace to scale with the rest of the living room.

      Add furniture and other design elements to your draft to preview how the fireplace would complement the living room that you a designing. If you do not like the placement, simply erase it and try it elsewhere in the room.

Tips & Warnings

  • Scaled furniture can be cut out of separate graph paper and placed on the floor plan of the living room for easier designing.
