OSHA stands for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. It is a federal agency under the jurisdiction of the United States Department of Labor, and it is charged with protecting the workers in America through regulation at the work place dealing with matters such as chemical hazards, time off work, child care and more. Citing published regulations set forth by OSHA is often necessary when writing technical papers, and there are several ways to accomplish this using various bibliography styles such as MLA and APA.

APA Style

1. Type "Occupational Safety & Health Administration, U.S. Department of Labor." to begin a citation in APA (American Psychological Association) style. Do not indent the first line, but indent each line thereafter with one tab space.

2. Write the date of the regulation in parentheses next, followed by a period. Write the date using the international format of date, month abbreviation, year. For example, you might write 12 Aug 2010 or 13 Jul 2011, instead of August 12, 2010.

3. Write the title of the regulation in italics followed by a period. Lastly, type the words "Retrieved from" followed by the complete URL where the regulation was viewed. Place a period at the end of the URL.

MLA Style

1. Type the name of the regulation in parentheses to begin a citation in MLA (Modern Language Association) style. Capitalize all words except articles in the regulation name. Do not indent the first line, but indent each line thereafter with one tab space.

2. Type the name of the organization source, OSHA, in italics followed by a period.

3. Type the overarching organization name without italics next. This is the United States Department of Labor. Follow this with a comma and the date of publication written in international style (date, month abbreviation, year).

4. Copy the full URL address next followed by a period.

5. Finish the citation with the date you accessed the web page in international style (date, month abbreviation, year).
