If you create the same type of template over and over again, you may want to consider using a macro to create the template for you. A macro is a small piece of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) code. Don't worry--you can set up templates in Word 2007 without knowing a programming language. All of the tools you need to create a template using macros are right there on the toolbar.

      Click on the "View" tab on the toolbar.

      Click on "Macros" and then click on "Record Macro." A pop up window will appear.

      Type a name for your macro in the "Macro name" text box. For example, "Letter Template."

      Click on "OK." The macro is now recording your keystrokes for playback at a later time.

      Make your template. For example, if you are making a template for a personal letter, you might type your name, address and phone number, and a salutation.

      Click on "Macros" and then click on "Stop recording." Your template macro is now created.

Tips & Warnings

  • To use the macro, click on "Macros" and then click on "View macros." Click on the name of your template and then click "Run" to run the template macro.
