How to Account for Voluntary Work
Nonprofit organizations, interns and candidates for the President's Volunteer Service Award are all some of the volunteer groups who must keep track of their work. Keeping an account of volunteer work helps volunteers meet program requirements and helps show financial backers of charitable organizations that the money is being well spent. Some organizations have worksheets to use; you can also create your hours sheet to account for your voluntary work.

1
Print a volunteer hours sheet or create your own. A simple way to create your own is to create columns on a piece of paper. Include columns for the date, the number of hours worked, a description of the work and a place for a sponsor to sign the sheet.
-
2
Fill in the worksheet each day you perform volunteer work. Write the date and time you began the work, and calculate the number of hours you volunteered. Briefly describe the work you performed.
-
3
Provide the sheet to a supervisor or sponsor and ask him to sign it. This provides a second source to check your volunteer work and provide feedback.
