How to Install a Turn Signal Switch on a 1987 Buick Regal Limited

The turn signal switch on a 1987 Buick Regal controls the turn signals, hazard flashers and headlight adjustment between high and low beams. If any of these systems should fail, the fault may lie in the turn signal switch. While the switch itself is not a cheap part, you can do yourself a financial favor and pocket the labor charge when you replace it yourself. If you possess solid mechanical aptitude, you can install a new turn signal switch in your 1987 Buick Regal in a matter of minutes.

Things You'll Need

• Trim tool
• Phillips screwdriver

Instructions

1. Pry the clamshell trim off the top of the steering column using the trim tool. The clamshell is the semi-circular trim that covers the top of the steering column just in front of the steering wheel.

2. Remove the screw holding the old turn signal switch in place with the Phillips screwdriver. Unplug the wiring harness from the switch and then lift the switch up and out of the column by hand.

3. Insert the new turn signal switch into the column. Thread the screw in place by hand and then tighten it with the screwdriver. Plug the wiring harness into the new switch.

4. Snap the Regal's clamshell back in place by hand, making sure to align the hold-down tabs before applying pressure to it.
