Instructions

    • 1

Close off the valves that supply water to the shower.

    • 2

Unscrew the shower head from the wall with pliers if it is installed through the body of the shower head. This is unnecessary if the shower head protrudes from the wall above the shower body.

    • 3

Cut away caulk that surrounds the shower body, using the hand-held razor.

    • 4

Pry the shower body away from the wall carefully, using the hammer and chisel and starting from the upper corner of the body. Take care not to damage the wall behind the body with the chisel. Continue this process until the entire body has been removed.

    • 5

Remove mortar and debris from the shower wall, using the chisel.

    • 6

Place the prefabricated shower body into the shower stall to check that it fits properly. Remove the shower body from the shower stall and place it in a working space.

    • 7

Mix your mortar mixture, following the manufacturer's instructions, and apply it to the back of the prefabricated shower body with a trowel. Fit the body into the shower and press firmly to bond the mortar to the wall. Allow to dry for the time specified by the manufacturer.

    • 8

Seal the shower body with silicone caulk. This prevents moisture from getting behind the shower body and rotting the wall. Allow the silicone to dry for the time specified by the manufacturer. Remove debris from the shower.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some companies offer free installation with a purchase of a prefabricated shower. Look for these deals and save yourself a lot of time.
