How to Install RAM in a Dell Desktop

Install RAM onto your Dell desktop with a few simple steps.

Installing RAM memory modules to the system board can improve the speed and computing power of your Dell desktop. Memory specifications can vary from computer to computer, so check with Dell to find the right components for your computer. When you have the proper RAM board, you must follow a few basic steps to install it into your Dell desktop.

Instructions

1. Turn the computer off.

2. Disconnect all attached devices and their cords.

3. Unplug the desktop power cable, then press the power button to discharge any remaining electricity and ground the system.

4. Press the buttons on the computer cover to open it and reveal the inside of the machine.

5. Turn the power supply and shift it away from the system board.

6. Pull out the securing latches on both ends of the long, slender memory dock.

7. Align the RAM board with the dock and and slide the board in. When the board is in place, the latches will lock down and hold it in place.

8. Put the computer back together again, reattach all cables and devices, and turn it on to finish the installation of RAM into your Dell desktop.
