How to Enable Java OS X

Java is a plug-in for applications and Web browsers that allows software created for a virtual machine to run on real computers. Cross-compatible with Macs, PCs and Linux computers, Java is essential for some Web pages to even load properly. While Java comes pre-installed on all Mac computers, you may have to enable it on your Mac's browser, Safari.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Safari on your Mac in the Dock or the Applications folder.

    • 2

Select "Preferences" from the Safari menu. Click on "Security."

    • 3

Check the "Enable Java" box. Close the Preferences window by clicking the red circle in the upper left corner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you have the latest version of Java installed for your Mac's operating system (see Resources).
