The Inspiron 1300 laptop computer manufactured and sold by Dell is equipped on the left-hand edge with a video graphics array (VGA) port for connecting an external monitor. The connection requires a standard VGA cable with 15-pin plugs. Once connected, a keystroke sequence switches the video display from the Inspiron screen to the monitor.

Instructions

      Insert the plug on one end of the cable into the VGA port on the left edge of the Inspiron.

      Plug in the other end of the cable to the port on the rear panel of the monitor.

      Press the "Fn" and "F8" keys together to turn off the Inspiron screen and switch on the VGA output to the attached monitor. The F8 button is labeled "LCD/CRT." Press the buttons again to switch back to the Inspiron.
