How to Clean Up Browsing History

Web browsers keep a history of the sites you visit. You can use this history to get back quickly return to individual websites. But anyone with access to your computer can also view your browsing history. There are methods to keep this history private.

Instructions

  1. Internet Explorer

      Click the "Tools" tab on your browser.

      Select "Delete Browsing History" on the menu that appears.

      Click "Delete History" in the window that opens. You will also be given the option to delete temporary Internet files, cookies, form data and passwords.

    Firefox

      Click the "Tools" tab on your browser.

      Select "Clear Recent History" on the menu that appears.

      Select the option that corresponds to the history you want to delete. You will be given the option to delete one or more hours of browsing history, one day or all browsing history. You will also be given the option to delete form and search history, cookies, cache, active logins and site preferences.

    Chrome

      Click the wrench image tab on your browser.

      Select "History" on the menu that appears.

      Click "Edit items" on the upper right side of the window that opens.

      Check each history item you wish to remove and then click "Remove selected items" or click "Clear all browsing data" to clear the entire history.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some browsers have a privacy browsing feature. When using this feature no Web history is saved,

  • Deleting browsing history or using private browsers will not provide any protection from spy-ware, viruses or any other malicious software.
