Changing details in the Conections panel will speed up Bitcomet downloads.

Bitcomet is a management protocol designed to provide a platform on your computer for all downloads of peer-to-peer files (or torrents). It is not a search engine for locating torrents on the Internet, but is a convenient framework in which you can simultaneously download multiple torrents from online sources, track their progress and preview the files you are downloading. There are several ways in which you can speed up the downloads that are performed via Bitcomet.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the "Options" tab, either via the "Tools" button on the toolbar or pressing "Ctrl" and "P."

    • 2

Set the download and upload rates in the Connections tab to 90. They are defaulted to offer unlimited downloads, but this leaves no bandwidth for Internet surfing. A high upload speed enables other peer-to-peer users to more effectively download files you are sharing.

    • 3

Access the "Advanced" panel and click on "Connection." In the "Maximum Connections per Task" row, insert a value of 130. This is the number of peer connections that can be made to each of your shared files. Setting too low means few connections can be made to your torrents, and a setting that's too high will leave you with little bandwidth for other tasks. You can raise this number if you have a large bandwidth.

    • 4

Ensure that the boxes are checked against the prompts "Enable DHT Network," "Enable uPnP port mapping" and "Remove port on NAT/Firewall when exiting."

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that the firewall settings on your computer (usually accessed via the Control Panel on the main menu) allow Bitcomet and its associated protocols through.

  • As with all file-sharing protocols, be aware that downloading some torrents can impinge upon copyrights. Downloading such files is illegal and may result in prosecution.
