Being able to demote a bullet allows you to produce more ideas without copying, deleting and pasting the pre-existing bullets of information. The PowerPoint Outline Area, where you find the demotion button, allows the publisher of the PowerPoint to focus on the actual content. The initial outline can act as a rough draft for your presentation and therefore help you concentrate on how the presentation will look, according to the University of Texas website.
