How to Use Lotus Notes With a POP Email

Lotus Notes is a business-oriented productivity suite that contains the ability to use email, calendaring and task setting. Lotus Notes uses the Lotus Domino administrative server in the same way that Microsoft Outlook links with the Microsoft Exchange Server. Lotus Notes is designed as the client-side application for the Domino server, though it can be set up with POP3 email addresses as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Lotus Notes. Click "File," then "Database" and then "New" to launch a new database for your email. This helps keep the Domino emails and your POP3 emails separate.

    • 2

Click "Mail" from the "Templates" list, then enter a title and a file name for your database. Click "OK" to create the database.

    • 3

Click the "Personal Address Book" icon on the task bar, then click "Create" and then click "Location." Set the "Location type" to "Local Area Network." Then title the location as "Internet Mail" or something similar. Select "TCP" in the "Ports" section to make sure your Lotus Notes connects online.

    • 4

Set the "Mail File" to the database you previously created, then set "Location" to "Local." Click the "Mail system" drop-down menu and set it to "Internet."

    • 5

Set "Send outgoing mail" to "Directly to Internet." Enter your email address in the "Internet mail address" file. Set the "SMTP" server to the SMTP server address for your POP account. Change the "Incoming" server to the POP3 server address for your account. Enter your user name and password, and set the "Leave mail on server" to "Yes." Change the "Use SSL" option depending on whether your mail client requires it, and if it does, change the "Port" to "995." Click "Save and close."
