How to Unsubscribe to Junk Mail

How to Unsubscribe to Junk Mail thumbnail
No one enjoys an inbox full of junk mail.

Electronic junk mail, also called spam, can clog your inbox and waste your time as you click through dozens of unwanted, and sometimes inappropriate, advertisements. You can reduce the amount of junk mail by paying close attention when you shop at commercial sites--some sites automatically include you in mailings when you purchase items. Read all purchase agreements carefully before proceeding to checkout.

Instructions

    • 1

Scroll to the bottom of the junk mail page.

    • 2

Search for the word "Unsubscribe" and click it. It may be highlighted or underlined. The correct link may also say "Click here to unsubscribe" or "Unsubscribe here."

    • 3

Follow the directions provided from the mail sender. In some cases, simply clicking the "Unsubscribe" link is all that is necessary. Some sites may prompt you to enter your email address or change your account information to reflect your desire to stop mailings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never provide personal information beyond your email address when unsubscribing from a mailing list. Some spam is sent out with the specific intent to gather personal identification information. This is called "phishing." Report phishing or other suspicious junk mail to the government website included in Resources.
