How to Test ADSL Broadband Speed
Testing your ADSL broadband speed helps you to know exactly how fast your connection really is. A speed test gives you an accurate picture of how your connection works on a normal basis. A speed test can be conducted on a number of websites for free and within a few seconds. In most cases, you do not need to download any special software for the ADSL broadband speed test to work.

Speedtest.net

Access the Speedtest.net website (see Resource section).

Click on a location on the map to use as a testing location. Select a location that is close to you. The icon for the recommended testing location is orange.

Review your connection's speed.
Audit My PC

Access the Audit My PC website (see Resource section).

Click "Internet Speed Test" from the top menu.

Scroll down and select "Start" to begin the speed test.

Review the test results.

Tips & Warnings
Disabling your firewall and antivirus protection could give you a speed boost. It is a good idea to test your ADSL broadband speed with and without the firewall and antivirus running.
You may be required to install Java on your computer if it is not already installed. Java can be downloaded for free from its website (see Resource section).
