Make a beaded heart pendant with fishing line.

Heart pendants mean many things. They can mean a declaration of love between romantic partners or act as a symbol of appreciation between friends and family members. They show up in force around Valentine's Day and are often jewel-encrusted and rather expensive. If you have some beading skill and a low budget, make the ones you love a beaded heart pendant. Fishing line is strong and drives the price of this project even lower.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut about 2 feet of fishing line. Thread a beading needle onto either end of the line, tying them fast so they don't slip off. Beading needles are thinner than your average needle and will slide through small crystal bead holes easily.

    • 2

Slip a faceted crystal bead onto a needle and slide it to the center of your fishing line. Slide one bead onto either side of this first bead. Pinch the three beads so they form a triangle with the point pointing down. Slide a fourth bead onto the left needle and bump it into the base of your triangle to form a square.

    • 3

Slip the right needle from right to left through the fourth bead. Slide one bead onto each needle and a third onto the left needle. Pass the right needle from right to left through this third bead. Repeat once more.

    • 4

Slide one bead on to the left and right needles. Slide the left needle from left to right through the right bead. Both sides of fishing line should now be hanging through the top right bead in your weave.

    • 5

Weave a second row of beads to the right of the first just as you did before. This time, use the right row of beads in your first woven section as the base of each bead triangle. Bead to the end of the first row, and then create a third row next to the others, stopping two beads away from the top of the second row. Create a fourth row of beads the same length as the third.

    • 6

Tie off your fishing line very tightly to keep your beads snug. Nip away excess fishing line. Open two jump rings with your pliers. Slip the rings through the fishing line at the top of the curves of your heart. Squeeze them shut; these little rings simply connect pieces of jewelry together. Use the rings to slip the heart on a cord or chain.
