How to Become a Claims Adjuster in Mississippi
Claims adjustors are usually employed by insurance companies and help determine if the claim is valid. Adjusters desiring to become employed in Mississippi must meet certain requirements, including becoming licensed. Mississippi also requires all potential adjusters to be at least 18 years of age before becoming employed. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, opportunities for adjusters are expected to be favorable with an employment growth of seven percent from 2010 to 2018. Adjusters received a median annual wage of $55,760 as of May 2008.

Complete a training course. Mississippi requires adjusters to complete 12 hours of a claims adjuster training course approved by the state. Many local colleges and universities offer programs that prepare individuals for a claims adjuster career. Courses include property insurance, liability, and others related to insurance.

Schedule the adjuster exam. Register for the adjuster's license exam by through TSI Testing Services. Expect to pay an exam fee of $85.00. Download a registration form from TSI's website and fill it out with your personal information, such as name, address, and phone number. Mail the registration form to:

Choose a testing site in a city closest to you. Mississippi offers testing sites in several cities, such as Gulfport, Oxford, and other surrounding areas.

Submit an application for license. After passing the Mississippi Claims Adjuster exam, submit an application for license through Sircon, the agency that facilitates license application for the state of Mississippi. Visit Sircon's website and choose "Apply for a license" to begin the electronic application process. Expect to pay an application fee of $50.00. After the application is approved, the applicant will receive a license and the title of Accredited Claims Adjuster.

After a potential adjuster passes the Mississippi Claims Adjuster exam, his scores are automatically forwarded to the Mississippi Insurance Department.
Mississippi claims adjusters must renew their license annually. Adjusters must have good communication skills to work with clients when evaluating claims.
Adjusters who aren't residents of Mississippi but wish to be considered for employment after relocation may submit proof of classroom training, the license they received from their state, and apply for a Mississippi license after paying the required fees.
