How to Make Handmade Wedding Cards
Whether you want to send a wedding card to a newly married friend or wish to send out your own wedding cards, making them by hand is an inexpensive option instead of buying or printing them. Hand-making them also gives you a chance to personalize your cards with your style. There are a variety of ways to craft your cards, making them as simple or intricate as you want.

A paper cutter will help you get precise measurements and cuts for your cards. You can find a cutter at any office store, or in a retail store in the office aisle. Purchase card stock, along with any accessories such as stamps, ribbons or dried flowers, at a craft or paper store. Popular card stock color choices for weddings include white, cream and pastels.

Cut each card to your desired measurements. Adjust the ruler on the cutter to get a measurement guideline to trim the card stock down to your desired size. Two of the most common card sizes are 8.5 by 5.5 inches or 4.5 by 5.5 inches.

Prepare to fold the card stock to form the actual card. Depending on the size of the card you cut, make the card either a portrait or landscape (vertical or horizontal) shape. Place opposite edges and corners together, as you would fold any other card. Press down firmly along the entire folded edge to give the card a crisp look.

Write on the card using a ballpoint pen, or, if you know how, use a calligraphy pen to write your message on the card. You may also hire a calligrapher to write your message for you.

Write a message inside the card congratulating the newlyweds if you are making a handmade card for them. Suggested topics for the card include your excitement for being included on their special day, wishing the best for them as a married couple or expressing your blessings that they have a joyful marriage. For your own card, if being used as an announcement, share the important details about your wedding including date of the event, time and location and add a personal message if desired.

Complete the front of the card by embellishing it with photos, dried flowers, ribbon or stamps.
