A Visa debit check card works just like a credit card.

A Visa debit check card allows you to make purchases anywhere that accepts Visa, cutting out the need for carrying cash or writing checks. Debit cards work like a credit card, except the money for purchases comes directly from your checking account. Most banks offer a Visa debit check card with their checking accounts. Once you activate a debit card for your checking account, any deposits you make to that account go towards your Visa debit check card.

Instructions

1. Visit the local branch of your bank and ask the teller to deposit funds into your checking account. Give the teller a check, cashier's check, money order, or cash to cover the deposit amount.

2. Visit a local ATM machine. Insert your Visa debit check card into the machine, enter in your PIN number, and follow the prompts to start a deposit transaction.

3. Place a check, cashiers check, money order, or cash in an envelope into the ATM machine. Print a receipt and close out your transaction.

4. Contact your bank by phone or in person to get their mailing address. Mail a check, cashier's check, or money order to the mailing address to make a deposit by mail.

5. Visit your supervisor or HR department and request a direct deposit form. Complete the form and provide your checking account number and the routing number for your bank to have all or a portion of your paycheck directly deposited into your checking account.

Tips & Warnings

• It may take several business days for a check to clear your bank. These funds will not be available on your Visa debit check card until the check clears.

• Deposits made in cash to an ATM can take up to three business days to post to your checking account.

• Set up online banking with your bank to view and manage your Visa debit check card online.

• Always print a receipt for any ATM deposit transactions. You will need this receipt if there is an error with your transaction.

• Never mail cash to your bank.
