How to Change the Cabin Air Filters on a 2001 Sport Trac
The 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac comes equipped with one cabin air filter. The cabin air filter acts as a secondary air filter. The cabin air filter prevents any small particles, debris and pollen from entering the cab of the vehicle. Once the outside air enters into the cabin air filter, the fibers the filter is made up of trap and hold the particles, debris and pollen inside of the filter. The clean air then comes out the other side of the filter and into the cab of the vehicle.

Park the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac and turn the engine off.

Move to the front passenger side seat and locate the cabin air filter housing cover directly under the glove box. Five screws are connecting the cover to the bottom of the glove box. The glove box does not have to be removed.

Remove the five screws by turning each screw counter clockwise with the Phillips head screwdriver. Lay the screws in the driver side seat.

Pull the cover down and place the cover in the driver side seat also. Look up inside of the cabin air filter housing and pull the cabin air filter downward by the small handle on the front of the filter. Make note of the direction of the arrow on the side of the filter. The arrow represents the air flow from the outside of the vehicle to the inside of the vehicle.

Push the new cabin air filter into the housing with the arrow facing the correct direction.

Position the cover back onto the bottom of the glove box and screw the five screws back in. Tighten screw down tight with the Phillips head screwdriver.

Tips & Warnings
The cabin air filter for the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac can be bought at most any auto parts stores.
Do not over-tighten the screws or you could break the cabin air filter housing cover.
