Updating your iPod driver in Windows 98 is easy with a few clicks.

Windows 98 is a Microsoft operating system. Since iTunes will not run on Windows 98, you will have to run a third-party music library software application to transfer songs from your Windows 98 system to your iPod. Normally, iTunes would update the driver for your iPod, but because you can't run iTunes on your Windows 98 computer, you will have to do it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your computer to the Internet and make sure that you have access.

    • 2

Plug your iPod into an available USB port on your computer. Watch the bottom right-hand side of the screen for the small bubble to pop up saying that USB hardware has been detected.

    • 3

Click on the "Start" menu and then go to the "Control Panel". Double-click on the "System" file and then go to "Device Manager."

    • 4

Scroll down the list to the "Universal Serial Bus Controller" and click the plus symbol next to it.

    • 5

Right-click on the iPod or on the icon labeled "Unknown Device." Click the "Properties" tab from the menu that appears. Go to the small button labeled "Update Driver."

    • 6

Click the "Update Driver" button and wait for the system to update the driver to the iPod. The computer will connect to Apple and update the driver for you.
