How to Get My Linux Laptop to Connect to the Internet
After you install Linux onto your laptop computer, you will find that you have all of the same capabilities you had when the machine was originally running the Windows operating system. This includes the ability to connect to the Internet. The Linux operating system allows you to connect to the Internet automatically from within your desktop, so no additional downloading or software is required outside of the native tools built into the OS.

Locate your Linux desktop "Network" icon. This icon will be place in the upper-right corner of your Linux desktop under default settings.

Click the "Network" icon. This will expand into a list of available Internet networks.

Click the name of the network you want to access using your Linux-powered laptop computer.

Type the name of the network (if prompted). If you are not prompted for a password, your Linux laptop will automatically connect to the selected network.

Tips & Warnings
The steps in this article are designed for wireless networks. For wired networks, just plug an Ethernet cable into the back of your laptop and your Linux computer will automatically connect.
