How to Send Big Files Through Email

Many types of files are often too large to send via email. Videos, pictures and PDF documents are apt to be huge in their original state. Not only are big attachments more difficult for the recipient to download, many mail servers also limit the storage capacity of each mailbox. Windows can reduce the size of a file for you before you send it as an attachment. After the file is compressed or trimmed, sending it is easy.

Instructions

  1. Pictures

    • 1

      Launch Windows Live Photo Gallery.

    • 2

Click the picture to select it from the list of thumbnails. Press and hold down the "CTRL" key on the keyboard when clicking multiple files.

    • 3

Click the "Email" button on the toolbar near the top of the window. This opens Windows Live Mail with the picture file attached.

    • 4

Set the picture's file size. Click "Low," "Medium" or "High" from among the formatting options. Choose "Low" if you are sending many files, and "Medium" or "High" if you want better quality at a larger file size.

    • 5

Insert the recipient's email address. Add a message if you wish, and click "Send."

    Any File Type

    • 6

Open Windows Explorer. Navigate to the file you want to send in an email. Right-click the file once.

    • 7

Click "Send To" and then click "Compressed (zipped) Folders." Windows will create a zip archive consisting of the file you selected.

    • 8

Right-click the zip archive. Click "Send To" 'and this time choose "Mail Recipient." Windows will launch your default email handler (such as Windows Live Mail) and attach the archive to a new message.

    • 9

Add a recipient, insert a message in the body, and click "Send."
